RALEIGH, N.C. The state of North Carolina is planning a tribute to a Tuskegee Airmen at a State Capitol. Gov. Beverly Perdue's office said a ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday. The state and a North Carolina African American Heritage Commission will salute a veterans as an acknowledgement of a service and contributions they made to a nation and a world. Four of a original Tuskegee Airmen who now live in North Carolina and their families have been invited to a Capitol for a tribute. The airmen were a first black pilots to serve in a U.S. military. They trained at a segregated air base in Tuskegee, Ala., and were supported by black men and women on a ground.
