Trying to describe my feelings as a fan after watching my North Carolina Tar Heels dismantle the Duke Blue Devils by 18 points on their own precious Cameron floor is like trying to describe the perfect tasting steak. No words seem to quite convey the exquisite details of flavor found within such an experience. I have listened to the Blue Devil smack talk from the moment Austin Rivers rose up for his three point dagger in the initial match up so I must admit, a feeling of revenge does creep in there too. Those Blue Devils do love to talk after all. While the win was certainly a wonderful moment for Carolina players and fans alike, it also showed that they are just as powerful as the pundits once thought they could be. What does this mean for the Tar Heels as they enter the ACC Tournament? More importantly, what will the victory mean to Carolina's chances moving forward into the NCAA tournament season? Are we looking at the annual Duke /Carolina trifecta? In the broad scheme of things, the win might get forgotten in the shuffle. Sure, it will put UNC in position to secure a number one seed in the NCAA Tournament if they win out. Every year, there are three matches between Duke and Carolina. Winning two of three usually means good things for the winner. While the third game is no given, you have to expect that it is at least likely. Duke and Carolina are clearly the class of the ACC this season, though Florida State is trying to change that notion. Will Carolina's regular season title get lost in the shuffle? So much emphasis is put on the ACC Tournament now. It seems that winning the regular season championship just does not have the luster that it once did. If Duke beats Carolina for the Tournament, then the ACC regular season championship will get lost in the shuffle by fans and NCAA Tournament officials alike. Can the Tar Heels hold it together long enough to get that number one seed? The number one seed in the NCAA is the real prize and the Heels! would d o well to not take their feet off the gas. They looked nearly unbeatable against the Blue Devils and showed that they can play defense with anybody. The theory that the Tar Heels can't play perimeter defense was destroyed. They close Duke down in nearly every way in one of the toughest places to play in the country. At this point, I am liking the Tar Heels chances of getting a number one seed in the NCAA Tournament. When the season began, I never dreamed that would be difficult for the Heels. Now, however, I am beginning to feel like they are hitting their groove once again.*Southern has been a Carolina fan since birth and has spent the better part of forty years being thankful that he chose correctly.Note: This article was written by a Yahoo! contributor.
