Duke LifePoint joint venture buying second North Carolina hospital

A joint venture that includes the Brentwood-based LifePoint Hospitals chain has reached an agreement to acquire possibly its second hospital in North Carolina.Under the agreement, Duke LifePoint Healthcare will acquire the 110-bed Person Memorial Hospital in Roxboro, N.C. and has committed to invest $15 million in capital improvements there over the next 10 years.The transaction should close within the next three months, pending approval by North Carolinas attorney general among various closing conditions. Terms of the agreement werent disclosed, but officials said sale proceeds would eliminate Person Memorials debt.The LifePoint chain and Duke University Health System, which operates a medical school, university medical center and other facilities, launched their joint venture earlier this year to acquire and run community hospitals across North Carolina and surrounding areas.Last month, Duke LifePoint signed an agreement to acquire an 80 percent ownership stake in and jointly own and run Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson, N.C.The partners also acquired the North Carolina cardiac catheterization operations of MedCath Partners LLC that includes nine labs to create DLP Cardiac Partners.
