Having watched the North Carolina Tar Heels basketball team since childhood, I have seen plenty of scorers come and go. Michael Jordan, James Worthy, and Sam Perkins were my childhood basketball heroes. The Heels have a team for 2011-12 that rivals any group I have personally witnessed as far as depth, scoring ability and talent is concerned. With all that talent, who will take the lead in the scoring department? Certainly, they will all get their share, but who will score the most? Here are the most likely candidates: Harrison BarnesBarnes started slowly in 2010-11, but man did he finish with a flourish. Barnes is a solid scorer whether at the two or the three. When he is at shooting guard, he simply rises above other guards. When he plays the three, he uses his speed to go around the defender. He is silky smooth from outside, and goes to the rack with abandon. Barnes to me is the clear favorite to lead the Heels in scoring.Tyler ZellerThe senior is not the most creative of scorers but he is workmanlike in his abilities. He gets the trash buckets and has actually improved his game to include a nice 10-15 foot jumper. Compared to his first two years, he was light years improved in 2010-11. This year expect him to level out but still be solidly in double figures.John HensonHenson is like Zeller, but with more potential. If Henson really applies himself, he could be a big time scorer down low. The problems with Henson has been foul trouble. This season should not be as bad because they have superior depth to allow him to sit. Henson added some pounds this offseason, so he should see a slight increase in his numbers.Reggie BullockBullock is a big time scoring machine that has simply not had a chance to show it yet due to injuries. I expect that Bullock will explode this year and show what he can do. When he is on, his jumper is absolutely deadly. Bullock could shock everyone and be near the top of the scoring column if things go well.James Micha! el McAdo oThe freshman is capable of leading the Heels, but he probably won't have to. His abilities are very similar to Henson and Zeller, but he is a more refined scorer than either of them. With time, McAdoo will be a special player at Carolina. Hopefully he won't go one and done.Note: This article was written by a Yahoo! contributor. Sign up here to start publishing your own sports content.
